Dear colleagues,

The keynote lectures will be given by specialists from both veterinary and human medicine. The pre-congress day will focus on intensive care of both large and small animals, with lectures on ventilation in the intensive care unit, fluid therapy and surviving sepsis, i.e. topics that are very relevant for veterinary anaesthetists, nurses and general practitioners.

The topics for the main congress days will be ‘Opioid free anaesthesia’ and ‘Cardiorespiratory support’. This will include lectures on opioid free anaesthesia in humans, the use of opioids in veterinary medicine, novel targets for analgesic drugs, protective ventilation in obese human patients, the cardiorespiratory challenges of robotic surgery in humans, etc. We are also very proud to host a Leslie Hall Memorial Lecture, where Prof. Iain Glen will talk about the development of propofol.

The organizing committee is determined to continue the AVA tradition of having excellent social programmes, with a welcome reception at the City Hall of the City of Ghent, a congress dinner (with open-end party!) at the Handelsbeurs of Ghent.
